Los Rojiblancos take on Gerardo Martino's side for the first trophy of the Spanish season and Simeone is under no illusions as to the tough task which awaits them.
"The final will be difficult - Barcelona are better. We will try to hit out best form for the game, be competitive and wait for our chance," he told reporters in Argentina.
Atletico was beaten 1-0 in Saturday's friendly with Estudiantes, but Simeone remains confident his charges will be ready for the opening clash of the Liga season against Sevilla on August 16.
"The objective is to be competitive in everything," he stressed. "We want to arrive at the Liga opener in good form, which is what is important to us."
