Jurgen Klopp could be without Mats Hummels, Neven Subotic and Sokratis Papastathopoulos on Saturday, club chief Michael Zorc said.
Mats Hummels and Neven Subotic picked up knocks in Wednesday’s 2-1 Champions League defeat to Napoli, while Sokratis Papastathopoulos has been recovering from a bruised foot.
If all three are ruled out of the match, the club would be left with 19-year-old Koray Gunter as the only recognized center back available, although Zorc remains optimistic regarding the health of his defenders.
"We don’t know for sure who we have available for selection," he told reporters. "But we are hopeful that Sokratis will be fit to play on Saturday. The same goes for Mats Hummels, who took a knock to the sciatic nerve forcing him to limp off against Napoli. Both have not been ruled out yet for the match."
The hosts have gotten off to a rough start in the league, going without a win in their first five games, but some confidence will be found in them having secured a 1-1 draw against Dortmund at home last season.
Zorc added: "We have always had to work hard in Nurnberg in the last couple of years, but we've been mainly successful. The challenge will be to find our feet after an away game in the Champions League, which was a loss, back to Bundesliga business and have our focus 100 percent on this game.
"We want to get a result there and remain top of the league on Saturday night."
