thumbnail Hello,

The FC Nurnberg right back faces long odds to make the U.S. World Cup squad after suffering an injury setback against Bayern Munich.

Timothy Chandler's World Cup prospects suffered a huge blow Saturday, as FC Nurnberg announced he has a torn meniscus in his left knee, and will be out 8-10 weeks.

The right back suffered the injury in a 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich. Chandler started the match, but had to be hauled off after just 10 minutes.

The 23-year-old has been in good form for Nurnberg recently, and was a good bet to be called up for the USA's March 5 friendly at Ukraine, after head coach Jurgen Klinsmann said he was keeping an eye on Chandler and would be calling mostly European-based players.

Chandler has not featured for the U.S. since February 2013, when he started in a 2-1 loss at Honduras to open the USA's Hexagonal campaign. The appearance cap-tied him to the U.S. national team.
