thumbnail Hello,

Canada head coach Benito Floro has named a veteran-laden roster for an upcoming friendly versus Jamaica.

There will be a lot of familiar faces on the BMO Field pitch when Canada takes on Jamaica on Sept. 9.

Canada head coach Benito Floro has summoned several veterans to fill out his 23-man roster ahead of the friendly, which is the Spaniard's first home game since joining the program in 2013.

“As you can imagine for me, this is a very special game because it’s a chance to correspond with the supporters,” Floro said in a statement. “So I would like a very good game—not only to pick up a win but to also get a good performance.”

All-time Canadian goal leader Dwayne De Rosario headlines a squad that also includes midfielders Atiba Hutchinson and Julian de Guzman. In addition, Montreal captain Patrice Bernier will look to make his 50th appearance for the national side, despite the Impact being scheduled to host the LA Galaxy just 24 hours later.

Several players are notably absent from Floro's squad, including Portland Timbers captain Will Johnson, Toronto FC's Jonathan Osorio, and Uruguayan-based striker Lucas Cavallini. Johnson asked to be left out of the team due to the impending birth of his second child, while sources tell Goal Canada that Osorio and Cavallini chose to remain with their club teams.

Rookie striker Tesho Akindele, enjoying a breakout season with FC Dallas, was contacted by the Canadian Soccer Association but—like Osorio and Cavallini—he will remain with his club during an important stretch of the season. All of Johnson, Osorio, Cavallini, and Akindele are expected by Floro to attend a future Canadian camp, possibly as early as November.
