thumbnail Hello,

The on-loan Sporting Lisbon man made his presence felt in four of his team's five goals against Chicago.

San Jose Earthquakes head coach Mark Watson praised on-loan Yannick Djalo after the Portuguese forward ran riot in the team's 5-1 win over the Chicago Fire.

Djalo netted a goal and notched three assists as the 'Quakes smashed their Eastern Conference opponents to end a dismal 0-4-1 run of bad form, and Watson was duly appreciative.

"I thought he was great," admired the 43-year-old former Canada international. "That's probably the position he does best at when he's just underneath and gets in those little pockets and turns toward their back four. He's obviously a very dynamic player for us and uses the ball well.

"I thought it was a fantastic performance."

Djalo sidestepped the spotlight, praising his teammates and singling out winger Shea Salinas, whose goal just before halftime set the stage for a Bay Area breakout in the second period.

"We demonstrated how good our midfield attack can be," said Djalo. "We made good passes, got into open space, which gave us a chance to use our speed to beat defenders. The midfield was in sync for most of the night.

"Shea Salinas' goal gave us the break we needed in the first half. He got us rolling to what was our best team performance of the year."
