Toronto FC players Nick Soolsma, Luis Silva, and Miguel Aceval face misdemeanor charges for public intoxication in Houston early Monday morning.
Three Toronto FC players face charges after an incident ealy Monday morning at a Houston establishment.
Midfielders Nick Soolsma and Luis Silva, along with defender Miguel Aceval, were taken into custody after a disturbance at Club Escobar in the Texas city, according to police. The incident allegedly happened at around 2:45 a.m. after police were called in to disperse a crowd in the parking lot outside the club.
TFC is in Houston to take on the Dynamo on Wednesday night at BBVA Compass Stadium. The Reds headed the south Texas city after dropping a 2-0 decision at Sporting Kansas City on Saturday. Of the three players alleged to have been involved in the nightclub incident, only Silva saw time on the pitch in Kansas.
On Monday afternoon, Toronto FC released a statement regarding the incident.
“We are aware of the charges filed against Miguel Aceval, Luis Silva and Nick Soolsma in Houston earlier today," the team stated. "The players are presently with the team and we continue to investigate this matter. As such, the team will not provide any further comment at this time.”
Toronto FC is 1-10 in MLS play so far this season.
