thumbnail Hello,

The veteran midfielder picked up a pair of yellow cards in a loss to Olympiakos. Goal recaps that and other Canadians Abroad weekend action.

GREECE

Normally a very disciplined player, Julian de Guzman felt the wrath of the officials on Sunday when he picked up a pair of yellow cards -- one just before and one just after halftime -- in SKODA Xanthi's 2-0 home loss to Olympiakos.

The defensive midfielder lined up in his usual spot in the centre of the park and was cautioned in the 43rd and 48th minutes, leading to his sending off. Xanthi, was only down a man for a little over 20 minutes as an Olympiakos player was shown a straght red card in the 73rd to put the teams on level terms.

Unfortunately for the hosts they were not on equal to Olympiakos on the scoreboard, as the result kept the visitors on top of the Greek Super League table for at least a few more weeks.

CYPRUS

High-flying Apollon Limassol continued its red-hot form with a 2-1 victory over visiting Doxa over the weekend, allowing the club to keep first-place AEL within one result of being overtaken.

Apollon's winning ways have seen striker Daniel Haber relegated to bench duty for most of the Cypriot season, and that's were he was for his club's most recent victory, as well.

TURKEY

The marginalization of goalkeeper Milan Borjan at Sivasspor resumed on Sunday, as the Canadian international was not part of the squad for its contest with Kayserispor.

Sivasspor didn't seem to miss Borjan, however, cruising to a 3-0 victory that pushed it up to third place in the Super Lig.

Meanwhile in the 1. Lig, attacker Tosaint Ricketts remained on the bench as Bucaspor fell 2-0 at lowly Tavşanlı Linyitspor.

Ricketts has four goals in 15 league apperarances for Bucaspor.

ENGLAND

The leagues in the English pyramid took the weekend off to allow teams to participate in the fourth round of the FA Cup, and Iain Hume was the only Canadian involved. The 30-year-old came off the bench in the 82nd minute for Preston North End in a scoreless draw at Nottingham Forest

Despite being in a lower division than its host, PNE earned the right to host a replay next week at Deepdale Stadium.
