After cruising to a 3-0 victory on Monday, Eintracht Frankfurt becomes the second club in three days to earn Bundesliga promotion with a Canadian in tow.
Eintracht Frankfurt is once again a member of the top tier of German football. An emphatic 3-0 victory at Alemannia Aachen on Monday sealed Eintracht's promotion back to the Bundesliga after a one year absence. The win also sees the Frankfurt club leap ahead of SpVgg Greuther Fürth in the 2. Bundesliga standings, as both clubs vie for the second division championship ahead of their move up to the top flight.
Canadian Rob Friend was on the bench for the duration of the match, and there are questions as to whether the big striker will remain with Eintracht for the upward move. The 31-year-old Canadian international has only played 183 league minutes over 12 games for his club so far this season, with one goal to his credit.
Friend transferred to Eintracht Frankfurt at the beginning of the season from Hertha BSC, whom he had helped gain promotion into the Bundesliga. He has prior German top flight experience with Borussia Mönchengladbach, having served three seasons with Die Fohlen.
He has also spent time with Heerenveen and Heracles in the Eredivisie, as well as Molde in Norway.
