John Herdman named his 18-player roster for Canada's high-profile June 2 friendly against the United States at Toronto's BMO Field.
The 29-year-old is one of 14 players on the current squad who were part of Canada's bronze medal-winning roster at last year's Olympic Games. The Canadians famously fell to the USA in a prolific semifinal match at that tournament that drew international attention, with Sinclair scoring a hat trick in the losing effort.
The Americans went on to win gold.
Head coach John Herdman has also summoned a few less experienced players as he continues his efforts to prepare Canada for the 2015 Women's World Cup, which it will host.
“It was important for us to bring in a blend of youth and experience for this game,” Herdman said in a statement. “We feel we have a good blend of players that have experience playing against USA – but we are also sticking to our task of preparing for the future.”
Included in those plans are youngsters Kadeisha Buchanan, Tiffany Cameron and Ashley Lawrence, all of whom have progressed to the senior team recently. There is also one player who could make her full national team debut against the Americans: 21-year-old Chicago Red Stars defender Rachel Quon, who has previously represented the USA at various youth levels.
The match -- which will take place at BMO Field -- has been sold out for weeks and will be shown live across North America. Herdman hopes that playing on such a grand stage will benefit some of his younger players.
“The fans are going to play a massive part in the game,” the coach said. “We will be playing in front of packed house and all of the pressure that goes with that. It’s important for this group of players, particularly the young ones, to get a real sense of the support we are looking forward to in 2015.
“We know the crowd will be in full voice and right behind us.”
