thumbnail Hello,

After spending over 10 years in the top tiers of English football, 28-year-old midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker is heading to Vancouver to play in MLS.

The Vancouver Whitecaps announced on Thursday the addition of English midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker to their roster – pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and visa.

Having captained English Premier League sides West Ham, Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers, Reo-Coker has made over 200 appearances in the EPL and head coach Martin Rennie is hoping the London native will be able to bring his leadership and experience to Vancouver.

“Nigel is a leader on and off the pitch,” said Rennie via a club press release. “Although he is only 28, Nigel brings a lot of experience to our club and will be a great addition.”

Reo-Coker told Prost Amerika on Thursday that he’s very much looking forward to joining his new outfit and taking on the challenge of a new and ever expanding league.

“I am very excited and looking forward to this great new challenge in Vancouver,” Reo-Coker stated. “The MLS is a growing league, and growing in stature every year which makes it even more exciting.

“I still know the best is yet to come from me as a player. I’m 28 and know there is more to come. I would love to contribute to this growing league and love to help Vancouver win the title.”

As per MLS policy, details of Reo-Coker’s contract have not been released, though he isn’t expected to be a Designated Player.
