Canada is off to a rough start at the U-20 CONCACAF Championship, after falling 2-1 to Cuba on Monday.
Falling 2-1 to Cuba at the Estadio Universitario BUAP in Puebla, Mexico, striker Maykel Reyes bagged two goals within an eight-minute stretch to give the island nation the win.
Canada answered with a 90th minute consolation goal via Stefan Vukovic, but it was too little, too late.
"We simply need to stay positive as there is a lot of football left to play at this tournament," Canada head coach Nick Dasovic said after the match.
"We will assess the performance and ensure that we are prepared to get the necessary result in our next game."
That next game comes Friday, as Canada squares up with Nicaragua in the second and final group stage match.
In the interim, Cuba will play Nicaragua on Wednesday. The top two teams from the pool advance to the quarterfinals of this competition – if Canada advances to that stage and manages to get into the semifinals, the team will qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup this June in Turkey.
