Although Wacker Innsbruck equalized, leaving the match knotted at 1-1, Boyd’s impressive showing was on full display. The striker now has 16 goals in all competitions in a breakout season.

Guzan effective as Villains win

Brad Guzan played well in goal on Saturday, making two saves as Aston Villa continued its strong run, outclassing Stoke City 3-1 on the road. The 'keeper did well to stop a Ryan Shotton attempt and wasn’t troubled much as most of Stoke’s attack went off target. The win keeps Villa three points clear of the relegation zone.

Friedel and Dempsey both suit up for Spurs

Brad Friedel started on Thursday, making five saves but allowing two goals as Spurs drew 2-2 with FC Basel in Europa League action. The first leg was not a kind one for the London club as it went down 2-0 before salvaging a 2-2 draw at home. Clint Dempsey played the final 27 minutes and attempted one shot but it was off target. Spurs now face an uphill battle in Switzerland for the second leg.

On Sunday, Hugo Loris replaced Friedel in goal and conceded two goals in a 2-2 draw with Everton. Clint Dempsey started and played the entire contest. The midfielder received a yellow card late for diving but did take several shots and tested fellow U.S. international Tim Howard on one occasion. The point keeps Spurs in the top four.

Howard sharp until bitter end

Tim Howard had a solid game on Sunday, making five saves, but in the 87th minute, Gylfi Sigurdsson tallied a huge equalizer for Spurs. Earlier in the match, Howard did well to stop attempts from Dempsey, Sigurdsson, and Mousa Dembélé.

Altidore scoreless in draw

Timothy Chandler started and played the entire contest on Sunday, testing the keeper one time as Nurnberg defeated Mianz, 2-1. The win propelled the club into the top half of the Bundesliga.
