Anderlecht wins Belgian Pro League title

The Brussels side was crowned champions with two games to spare after it recorded a draw against Club Brugge.

Anderlecht has secured its 31st Belgian Pro League title after salvaging a 1-1 draw with Club Brugge at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium on Sunday.

Brugge opened the scoring in the 72nd minute via Maxime Lestienne, but Guillaume Gillet restored parity when he converted a penalty well into stoppage time to help the Brussels giants to their second league title in three years.

Anderlecht will gain direct entry into the Champions League group stages should Bayern Munich win the final against Chelsea on May 19, but will have to play in the third qualifying round if the English club win.

Paars-wit hold a seven point lead over Brugge with only two more games to go, against Kortrijk and Standard Liege respectively.
