The two Canadian sides took a point each in Major League Soccer's return after a break for the FIFA World Cup.
In a match with no goals and just half a dozen shots on target, it was Impact keeper Troy Perkins who found himself the busier of the two custodians, making four saves. His most impressive of the night was a quick reflex save on a low, hard Pedro Morales free kick.
Montreal forward Jack McInerney was active but ineffective, unable to put any of his four shots on target.
The draw is just Montreal's 11th point of the season, and the Quebecois side is last in the Eastern Conference with a 2-7-5 record. Its minus-13 goal difference also places it last in Major League Soccer.
Vancouver remains in the fifth and final Western Conference playoff spot, with 22 points from its 5-2-7 record.
