Tottenham will look to make it back-to-back European victories when they travel to Russia to face Anzhi Makhachkala on Thursday October 3 whilst Tromso seek their first points when they host Moldovan side Sheriff Tiraspol. That's all from me tonight, folks. Thanks for joining me, until next time, goodbye!
FT: Tottenham 3-0 Tromso. Andre Villas Boas' side make a confident, winning start to their UEFA Europa League group stage campaign courtesy of Jermain Defoe's well-taken double and Christian Eriksen's fantastic late strike. It is no surprise that they are being touted as many people's favourites to lift the trophy and they simply had too much quality tonight for the Norwegian side.
That really was a special goal from Christian Eriksen who has made a superb start to his Tottenham career. At only £11m, could he prove to be the signing of the season?
Assist Kyle Naughton
Goal Christian Eriksen
ERIKSEN MAKES IT 3-0! What a strike from the Danish international! He collects Naughton's pass just outside the box, shifting the ball away from Andersen and bending a superb right-footed shot into the top left-hand corner. Three goals and three points for Tottenham.
Paulinho is looking to make some clever runs behind the Tromso defence but Antonsen anticipates the play brilliantly to deny Lamela's through ball.
Moldskred delivers a teasing corner into the Tottenham box and Sandro just manages to get enough on the ball to take it away from Pritchard. The Norwegians can be proud of their second-half performance, despite not really threatening Lloris' goal.
Paulinho receives Eriksen's neat pass on the left side of the box and he looks to bend a shot into the far corner, only to watch it go well wide of the target.
Antonsen gets into a terrific position down the right and he cuts the ball back for Molskred. The winger is set to pull the trigger but Lamela tracks back excellently to win possession. Lloris is yet to make a meaningful save.
The Tromso fans have not had much to cheer about tonight, but the 900 or so travelling fans are enjoying themselves at White Hart Lane, singing and bouncing up and down. That's always good to see.
Agnar Christensen opts to make his final change of the match, throwing on Saturday's matchwinner Magnus Andersen for Thomas Drage.
Defoe lays the ball into Sigurdsson's feet just inside the box but with his back to goal, the Icelandic cannot swivel and keep the ball under control, allowing Antonsen to steal possession.
Sigurdsson has got into some promising positions this evening but once again his touch lets him down and Fojut steals the ball away. The home crowd, which has been quiet for the majority of this match, suddenly spring to life to spur their team on for a third goal.
Andre Villas Boas has decided to make his last change of the match, introducing Paulinho in place of Holtby.
Yellow Card Jaroslaw Fojut
Jaroslaw Fojut joins Johnsen in the book when he is cautioned for bringing down Lamela.
Holtby whips in a corner from the left but Causevic rises highest to take the ball away from Dawson. Eriksen crosses the ball back into the box but Sandro's header is well saved by Sahiman.
Tottenham certainly seem to have taken their foot off the gas in the last ten minutes or so, perhaps with Sunday's league clash against Cardiff in the back of their minds. I'm sure Villas Boas will want his side to score a third just to ensure there is no nervy finish.
This is Tromso's best spell of the match and Kristiansen wins a corner after Ondrasek's cushioned layoff. However, Lloris races off his line quickly to punch away the resulting corner.
Moussa Dembele is unable to continue and he is replaced by Christian Eriksen, who was impressive on his debut against Norwich at the weekend.
Holtby has his heart in his mouth after his sloppy mistake gifts Pritchard possession. However, his blushes are spared as the on-loan Fulham man can only slice his shot narrowly wide of Lloris' goal.
Dembele is stretchered off the field of play to join Rose on the treatment table. Tromso make a second substitution as 18-year-old Kent-Are Antonsen replaces captain Miika Koppinen.
Yellow Card Lars Gunnar Johnsen
Substitute Lars Gunna Johnsen picks up the first caution of the game for a late tackle on Moussa Dembele. The Belgian midfielder is in some discomfort here.
Tottenham counter immediately but Dembele fires a shot wastefully over the bar.
WHAT A CHANCE FOR TROMSO! Moldskred does brilliantly to dribble past Kaboul and Dawson but with options left and right, he fails to pick out Ondrasek and Naughton makes a crucial interception. That was the Norwegians' best opportunity of the match to date.
Sigurdsson produces a neat piece of skill to control Vertonghen's deflected cross. However, his goalbound effort strikes Defoe, who was standing in an offside position. In fairness, I think Sahiman had that covered.
Michel Dawson is fortunate to escape the first booking of the game after he clatters into the back of Drage.
Holtby is hoping to seize his opportunity when he finds space on the edge of the box. However, the German midfielder drags his shot several yards wide of the left-hand post.
Tottenham are hardly breaking sweat here as they continue to outpass Tromso with ease. The vast gulf in quality is quite astonishing.
Sigurdsson delivers a corner from the left but Sahiman comes off his line to confidently pluck the ball out of the air. That will give him some confidence.
Tottenham have started the second half as they ended the first - in full control. Tromso are just gifting possession back to Tottenham every time they have the ball and are putting themselves under real pressure.
GOOD CHANCE FOR TOTTENHAM! The home side go close to scoring a third when Lamela lays the ball out to the left corner of the box for Sigurdsson. However, he dallies his shot and lays the ball back for Sandro who watches his fierce effort well blocked by Koppinen.
Lars Gunnar Johnsen
The teams re-emerge from the tunnels for the second half. Tromso have in fact made a substitution with Lars Gunnar Johnsen replacing Thomas Bendiksen in the heart of midfield.
HT: Tottenham 2-0 Tromso. Andre Villas Boas' side are in firm control at the break thanks to Jermain Defoe's well-taken double. The Norwegian side have hardly threatened Hugo Lloris' goal and the only blemish on Tottenham's performance so far was the injury sustained by Danny Rose. The North London side are on course for a comfortable three points here.
Defoe goes close to scoring his hat trick but Sahiman reacts smartly to palm his curling effort around the post. Holtby then blazes a strike over from the resulting corner.
Lloris has been a mere spectator this half and he watches on as on-loan Fulham man Pritchard drags Tromso's first shot of the game wide of the target. Tottenham have only conceded one goal so far this season - to Olivier Giroud in a 1-0 league defeat to fierce rivals Arsenal.
Sigurdsson is looking lively for Tottenham but he cannot add to his goals from the weekend as he drags a shot wide of the left-hand post from Defoe's layoff. Villas Boas' men are extremely comfortable here.
Tottenham actually had a former Tromso player when goalkeeper Lars Hirschfeld was on their books from 2002 to 2004. However, he failed to make a competitive appearance for the club.
Defoe is sniffing around for a hat trick but he will have to wait a little longer as he is adjudged offside from Sigurdsson's slide pass. Vertonghen finally enters the action at left-back.
Tottenham enjoy a spell of possession, simply passing it around the back as Vertonghen goes through the last stage of his warm-up on the touchline. In all honestly, I think they could play the whole game with 10 men and run out convincing winners.
Danny Rose has picked up a knock here and his game is over. Jan Vertonghen is stripped and ready to go on the touchline.
It is still currently 0-0 the other group K game between Sheriff Tiraspol and Anzhi.
Incidentally, that is Jermain Defoe's 20th European goal for Tottenham.
Assist Lewis Holtby
Goal Jermain Defoe
DEFOE DOUBLES TOTTENHAM'S LEAD! This time it is Holtby who plays a well-weighted pass beyond the Tromso back line and Defoe gets away from Fojut to slide a left-footed shot past Sahiman and into the bottom corner. 2-0.
Tottenham have been in fine goalscoring form in this competition so far, defeating Dinamo Tblisi 8-0 on aggregate in the playoff round. However, it did take them four league matches to score their first goals from open play.
We have not seen too much of Naughton down the right but he gets forward this time to win a corner. The ball is whipped into the box and falls to Kaboul six yards out, however, the French defender inexplicably blasts the ball wide. He should have at least hit the target.
Tottenham are chasing a quick second goal here but Lamela cannot quite latch onto Sandro's chipped pass over the top of the defence.
Assist Erik Lamela
Goal Jermain Defoe
DEFOE GIVES TOTTENHAM THE LEAD! Lamela's neat first-time pass finds Defoe in the box and the striker makes no mistake this time, chipping the ball over the advancing Sahiman brilliantly and into the net, 1-0.
TOTTENHAM ARE GETTING CLOSER! Sandro has looked sharp so far and he pokes a pass into the box for Sigurdsson. However, the Icelandic international cannot quite get the ball out from under his feet and Sahiman makes a comfortable save.
Tottenham are in firm control here but they are yet to break the deadlock as Dembele balloons an effort over the bar from outside the box.
GOOD SAVE FROM SAHIMAN! Holtby slides a ball into the path of Defoe on the right-hand side of the box but the England striker can only hit his shot straight at the goalkeeper.
Sigurdsson scored two goals against Norwich at the weekend and he looks to turn provider here but cannot quite pick out Lamela's run in the box. Good idea from the Icelandic international.
Moldskred skips past the challenge of Dawson down the right wing but he cannot pick out a blue shirt in the box and Sandro mops up the danger.
Danny Rose has made a bright start down the left-hand side and he wins the first corner of the game. Lamela overhits the set piece however and Tromso gain possession.
Tromso are yet to venture into Tottenham's half just yet but they do look composed on the ball. I'm sure Agnar Christensen will be keen to keep it tight for at least the first 15 minutes.
A Norwegian club has never won a game on English soil in UEFA competition in 18 attempts. Can Tromso break that record this evening?
Tottenham have started brightly here and Rose is the first to test Sahiman when he wriggles in from the left-hand side before forcing the goalkeeper into a low save with his right-footed effort.
Incidentally, Tromso did beat Norwegian league leaders Rosenborg at the weekend. However, it was their first league win for almost three months.
It's good to see Younes Kaboul and Sandro back out on the field for Tottenham after they missed large chunks of last season's campaign through injury. Andre Villas Boas really does have an abundance of options this season.
Referee Libor Kovarik blows his whistle and Tottenham get their Europa League group stage campaign underway.
The two sides emerge from the tunnels and captains Michael Dawson and Miika Koppinen exchange handshakes in the centre-circle.
These two sides have never met before in official European competition. However, Tottenham did defeat Norwegian side FK Lyn 12-3 on aggregate in the 1972 UEFA Cup.
Tottenham are unbeaten in their last seven home ties in European competition (W5 D2) since a 2-1 loss to PAOK FC in the 2011/12 Europa League group stage.
Tromso (4-2-3-1): Sahiman; Causevic, Fojut, Koppinen, Kristiansen; Johansen, Bendiksen; Moldskred, Pritchard, Drage; Ondrasek.
Tottenham (4-2-3-1): Lloris; Naughton, Kaboul, Dawson, Rose; Dembele, Sandro; Sigurdsson, Holtby, Lamela; Defoe.
Without further ado, here is tonight's team news...
Andre Villas-Boas became the youngest manager to win a European title, at 33 years of age, when Porto lifted the 2010/11 Europa League. Can he back that up this season with Tottenham's first European trophy since 1984?
Can Agnar Christensen inspire another famous Tromso victory over a London opponent tonight? Bringing you all the action from White Hart Lane, my name is Max Bentley.
However, those of you with an extensive memory will remember that Tromso did in fact defeat Chelsea 3-2 in the UEFA Cup Winner's Cup back in 1997. However, that did not prevent them from crashing out 9-4 on aggregate.
Tromso, however, are rank outsiders to win the tournament at 500/1 with some bookmakers. In fact, they have already been eliminated from the competition after a 3-2 aggregate defeat to Besiktas but were reinstated after the Turkish side were disqualified for their part in a match-fixing scandal.
It's not hard to see why Tottenham are so highly-tipped to win this prestigious trophy as they possess an abundance of quality all over the field with many of their expensive summer signings looking to make their mark.
The Europa League group stages are finally back! Tonight's contest at White Hart Lane features a David vs Goliath affair as Norwegian side Tromso take on many people's tournament favourites, Tottenham.
