MLS Preview: Toronto FC - Houston Dynamo

MLS Preview: Toronto FC - Houston Dynamo

Andrew Fielding

The first meeting of the year between Toronto and Houston takes place on Saturday night at BMO Field.

If either Toronto FC or the Houston Dynamo come out of BMO Field on Saturday with a victory, it will be the first time in four meetings between the clubs that the match didn't end up in a stalemate.

The last time a definitive result came out of this fixture was back on July 28, 2012, when the Dynamo blanked Paul Mariner's TFC 2-0 in Toronto. Much has changed since then, of course, with Ryan Nelsen now in charge of a Toronto side that has proven itself a legitimate contender in the Eastern Conference.

Houston, on the other hand, has gone from perennial power to bottom feeder this season. It's a strange place for the Dom Kinnear-led side to be, but a winless streak dating back to May 17 will lend itself to a place at the foot of the table. The Dynamo actually broke a five-game MLS losing streak last week with a 2-2 home draw vs. New York, but Houston is still searching for its first road win of the 2014 league campaign.

Kinnear's side has actually been nothing short of awful away from BBVA Compass Stadium this season, with a road goal difference of -15 anchoring the club down. It'll be in tough to reverse that trend at BMO Field, although TFC is coming off a 2-1 loss at home to D.C. United last weekend.
