  • My name is Tom Webber and it has been an absolute pleasure to guide you through this evening's action. Enjoy the rest of your night!
  • FULL TIME - Switzerland 1-0 Brazil: An own goal from Dani Alves proves to be the difference but it is a fully-deserved win for the hosts. They played the better football and will take great confidence from this win. For Brazil, though, this goes to show that despite their Confederations Cup triumph there is still work to be done.
  • 90' + 4'
The final whistle is sounded by the referee!
  • 90' + 2'
Neymar drives past Lang and pings the ball into the box, only to see Schar turn it behind. He takes the resultant corner quickly, finding Hernanes on the corner of the area. The midfielder arrows an effort towards the near post but is unable to guide it on target.
  • 90' + 1'
Into the first of three additional minutes.
  • 90'
    Yellow Card Pirmin Schwegler
  • 90'
Hernanes whips a dangerous ball into the area but the offside flag goes up. Looks like there were four yellow shirts in illegal positions there.
  • 89'
Another booking on the way. This time it is Schwegler who puts in a rash challenge on Neymar as he jinked past the Swiss. Can they make anything from this free kick?
  • 88'
Lucas puts a good cross into the area which Jo traps on the edge of the area. He fails to take the ball with him but Behrami storms in to stop another yellow shirt from lashing an effort at goal.
  • 86'
    Substitution Xherdan Shaqiri Admir Mehmedi
  • 86'
Shaqiri makes way and is given a brilliant ovation from the crowd. He has been the best player on the pitch tonight and fully deserves that recognition.
  • 85'
WHAT A CHANCE!! Brazil combine excellently up top but Neymar just cannot bring Jo's pass under control on the edge of the area. That was the Selecao's best move of the game but they have been unable to test the keeper.
  • 83'
    Yellow Card Fernando
  • 83'
Good save, Jefferson! Fernando brought Shaqiri down clumsily and earned a booking for his tackle. The Bayern man gets up to take the free kick himself, which is struck wickedly. Fortunately for the keeper it goes straight down the middle, but it is hit with such venom that he does well to hold it.
  • 81'
Neymar picks the ball up on the left of the area and is greeted by loud jeers from all across the stadium. They turn into cheers as the forward's attempt to bend the ball into the far top corner goes aimlessly wide.
  • 78'
The hosts have completely dominated this one and the Selecao are showing no sign of having the ability to get back into this one. Scolari is going to be disappointed with this.
  • 76'
Switzerland are resorting more to the counterattack now as they look to close this result out. A 1-0 win over Brazil would certainly be a big result for them and would hold them in good stead as they look to secure their place at the next World Cup.
  • 75'
    Substitution Blerim Dzemaili Pirmin Schwegler
  • 74'
    Substitution Haris Seferovic Mario Gavranovic
  • 73'
Brazil are not playing particularly adventurously here. The pace of Lucas is causing problems as he races in from the right but as yet he has been unable to provide an end product.
  • 71'
A poor effort from Shaqiri! He's been absolutely brilliant up until now so I think we can let him off for that one. Was it a cross? Was it a shot? In fact, it ended up being neither it was that bad!
  • 69'
    Substitution Daniel Alves Jean
  • 69'
Brazil have 20 minutes to rescue the renewed belief that they can challenge for the World Cup next year, following from their Confederations Cup triumph. The only worry could be that all these substitutions may make them a bit disjointed.
  • 67'
Super vision from Paulinho as he looks to thread a pass in to Jo but Lang does brilliantly to slide in an intercept the ball. Not a bad way to introduce yourself for the Swiss.
  • 66'
OVER THE TOP!! Shaqiri again pulls the trigger from distance as he finds space 30 yards from goal. He stikes the ball sweetly enough but it is always rising and Jefferson watches it go over.
  • 64'
We have not seen a lot of Neymar in this half. At times in the first half he was very dangerous but since the break he has gone missing. Many are still yet to be convinced by his talents and will point to games such as these when looking to detract from his ability.
  • 62'
    Substitution Stephan Lichtsteiner Michael Lang
  • 62'
    Substitution Hulk Lucas
  • 62'
JUST OVER!! Maxwell puts a brilliant pass into Hulk, who smashes the ball towards goal but is unable to keep it down. His effort sails over and it proves to be his last input to the game.
  • 59'
    Substitution Oscar Hernanes
  • 59'
Oscar makes way for Hernanes now. The Chelsea man has struggled to influence this game in the way that he usually would.
  • 56'
    Substitution Luiz Gustavo Fernando
  • 56'
    Substitution Marcelo Maxwell
  • 56'
    Substitution Fred
  • 54'
Hitzfeld's men have got Brazil penned back in their own half and are playing brilliantly here. Lichtsteiner breaks forward brilliantly down the right and cuts the ball back to Xhaka. He shoots from the top of the box but his effort is deflected behind for a corner.
  • 52'
ALMOST ANOTHER OWN GOAL!! What is going on in the Brazilian defence? Marcelo plays an awkward ball back to Jefferson who is rapidly closed down by Seferovic. He goes to pick the ball up but realises he cannot and just about manages to retain possession and hold off the challenge three yards from his own goal!
  • 50'
WHAT A CHANCE! Switzerland almost make it two as Dzemaili releases Seferovic inside the area. The striker looks to chip the ball into the far corner but misses the target and his calls for a corner go unnoticed.
  • 48'
    Own Goal Daniel Alves
UNBELIEVABLE!! Marcelo gets overloaded in the wide area and Shaqiri capitalises by cutting inside and then sending Seferovic down towards the byeline. The striker stands the ball up at the back post where Alves, in his attempts to guide it back to Jefferson, finds the back of his own net!
  • 46'
    Substitution Valentin Stocker Tranquillo Barnetta
  • 46'
    Substitution Philippe Senderos Fabian Schaer
  • 46'
We are back under way in the second half and within 25 seconds Switzerland get a shot on goal. It is Xhaka who hits it from distance but it never looked to be going on target.
  • The teams are back out on the pitch and the second half is moments away!
  • HALF TIME - Switzerland 0-0 Brazil: Do not judge this game by the scoreline, it has certainly been an intriguing one. The hosts have been playing some brilliant passing football against an arguably less fluid Selecao. Shaqiri has been the main danger and you sense that some substitutions may be afoot for the visitors if things do not pick up quickly. Join me in 15 minutes for the second half!
  • 45' + 1'
A short corner routine from Hulk proves to be the last action of the half!
  • 45'
Just one minute of additional time to be played here.
  • 44'
HE HAS TO HIT THE TARGET!! Hulk plays an exquisite pass into the area for Oscar, who has acres of space but his control lets him down. It forces him to shoot from an acute angle and with Benaglio rushing out, he is unable to divert his effort on target.
  • 43'
Good save, Jefferson! The keeper is forced to fling himself across goal to get his hands to Shaqiri's bending effort from distance. That all came from a quick throw in, would you believe!
  • 41'
Absolutely brilliant from Neymar to beat Dzemaili down the left but as the ball gets away from him he pulls up. He also looks to have put arm across his opponents face but the referee is uninterested in all that drama!
  • 38'
OFF THE BAR!! Paulinho, who gets forward in support for the first time this evening, rises highest to get on the end of Neymar's cross. He outjumps Senderos but his glanced header deflects over via the top of crossbar.
  • 37'
Fred really needs to show more awareness when chasing a ball in behind the defence. He is trying to compensate for his lack of pace by running early. The rules do not allow that Fred!
  • 35'
Switzerland are really stretching their opponents now. Exploiting the space left by Marcelo, they charge down their right before switching the play to Stocker. He combines well with Seferovic but there is no target in the area for him to aim his shot at.
  • 33'
Brazil are increasingly taking a back-seat role in this game. They lack the same fluidity in attack as their opponents, who are also outplaying them in midfield.
  • 31'
Vital interception from Alves! Shaqiri drifts in from the right and switches the play the Stocker on the left. He brings the ball down excellently but Alves manages to dive in and get a leg in the way of his shot on goal. Rodriguez follows up with an effort from distance but fails to hit the target.
  • 30'
CHANCE FOR BRAZIL!! Hulk outmuscles Rodriguez and races towards goal, coming in from the right. You would expect him to smash a shot with his left but instead he rolls a square pass to Neymar. He shifts the ball onto his left and tries to pick out the bottom corner but his attempt rolls wide of the post.
  • 29'
The Swiss are playing some lovely, one-touch, passing football this evening. The work the ball from left to right and almost get Lichtsteiner into a great crossing position, but the flag goes up for offside.
  • 27'
Almost a nightmare moment for Jefferson! Xhaka is given far too much time on the ball 25 yards from goal and he lashes a wicked shot at goal. The keeper tries to hold the swerving effort but is forced to dive behind him and gather at the second attempt before the ball crosses the line!
  • 25'
That moment of madness seems to have sapped the life out of the game a bit. The tempo has slowed, with Brazil seemingly content to let Sqitzerland hold onto the ball for longer periods.
  • 23'
    Yellow Card Valon Behrami
  • 23'
    Yellow Card Neymar
  • 23'
I tell you what Lichsteiner can consider himself lucky to still be on the pitch after that! The right-back violently kicked out against Neymar following his admittedly dreadful challenge, but there is no need for that.
  • 21'
Neymar gets his own back on Lichtsteiner by steaming in behind him and, what can only be described as 'rugby tackling' his opponent. Tempers fray and the Barcelona player goes into the referee's book.
  • 18'
OVER THE BAR! Shaqiri, who has started the game impressively, is picked out in space on the edge of the box by an intelligent pass from Xhaka. He takes a touch and tries to bend an effort into the top corner but sees it fly high into the stands.
  • 17'
SUPER SAVE! A sublime first-time pass from Fred puts Hulk through one-on-one with Benaglio but the keeper manages to stop the winger's shot from finding the net with his leg! That should have been the opener.
  • 15'
What a chance! Hulk passes the ball straight to Shaqiri inside his own half and the Bayern man slips a great pass out to Stocker on the left. He squares the ball for Dzemaili but he is unable to squeeze a shot on goal between a wall yellow shirts from close to the penalty spot.
  • 14'
Poor effort! Oscar finds space between Klose and Senderos to bring a long pass down on the edge of the area. He has time to turn but snatches at his shot and is forced to watch as it rolls harmlessly wide of the goal.
  • 12'
IMPORTANT STOP! Neymar threads a delightful pass to Hulk on the left side of the area and the Zenit man sends the ball into the six-yard box. Fred is there, awaiting a simple tap in, but Benaglio gets down to intercept the pass and thwart the move.
  • 11'
    Yellow Card Philippe Senderos
  • 11'
Neymar picks the ball up with space to run at the defence. He glides past Senderos but is dragged to ground by the centre-back, who picks up a booking for that challenge.
  • 10'
Great anticipation from Thiago Silva, there. The centre-back stepped out brilliantly to intercept the ball as Rodriguez looked to push Switzerland forward from the back.
  • 8'
Seferovic is working hard on his own up front to close the Brazilian defence as quickly as he can. He forces Alves to send a long pass up towards Fred which he overhits, straight into the awaiting arms of Benaglio.
  • 6'
Lichtsteiner brings Neymar down on the left and immediately hints to the referee that he fell to easily. I am unsure about it that time, the Barcelona forward looked just a bit too quick for the right-back.
  • 5'
Risky business from Klose! The centre-back lets the ball bounce in front of him and almost allows Oscar to run around him and steal in behind. Luckily for him, he manages to make contact by stretching to make a header.
  • 4'
Over the bar! Neymar shows some fancy footwork on the edge of the box before laying the ball out wide to Marcelo. The left-back sends a first-time cross into the box for Hulk but it comes in at a difficult height and he fails to keep his effort down and on target.
  • 3'
Hulk drops deep and ends up conceding possession in his own half as he comes under attack from a swarm of red shirts. Luiz Gustavo gathers up the loose ball but can only run it out for a throw in. Good pressing from Switzerland early on.
  • 2'
An ambitious ball over the top is sent long to Fred, who appears to be through one-on-one with Benaglio. The striker eases off his chase as he notices the assistant referee with his flagged raised on the near side, signalling for offside.
  • 1'
We are under way in Basel!
  • A couple of substitutions for Scolari as he clearly wants something different from his side. They have started the second half poorly and really need to step up in the next 30 minutes.
  • The pre-match formalities are all but over so kick off is a matter of seconds away.
  • For those of you not aware of Brazil's goalkeeper, Jefferson, tonight, he plays in the Brasileirao for Botafogo and is considered one of the best in the league. He is agile and dominating and could prove difficult to beat.
  • Here is the Brazilian national anthem. Not sure if they will have enough support with them in Basel to keep singning the second verse after the music stops this time around!
  • The teams are out on the pitch at St Jakob-Park and so kick off will only be a matter of minutes away. Will be treated to another dazzling display from the Selecao or will the Swiss prove difficult to break down?
  • The Swiss are leading their group for World Cup qualification, have not lost in almost 15 months, and have not conceded a goal in their previous three outings. This will be no easy task for Scolari's men.
  • David Luiz is out for Brazil as a knee problem caused him to miss training yesterday so Dante joins Thiago Silva in defence. Luiz Felipe Scolari has also selected Jefferson ahead of Julio Cesar as he reminds his players that they need to be training and playing regularly at club level: a warning also aimed at Luiz Gustavo who has been linked with a move away from Bayern Munich.
  • Switzerland coach Ottmar Hitzfeld drops Gokhan Inler and Steve von Bergen to the bench from their last outing against Cyprus. Haris Seferovic, who came on as a substitute to score the winner in that game, is handed the responsibility of leading the line for his country this evening.
  • Brazil (4-2-3-1): Jefferson; Dani Alves, Dante, Thiago Silva, Marcelo; Luiz Gustavo, Paulinho; Hulk, Oscar, Neymar; Fred.
  • Switzerland (4-2-3-1): Benaglio; Lichtsteiner, Senderos, Klose, Rodriguez; Behrami, Dzemaili; Shaqiri, Xhaka, Stocker; Seferovic.
  • The line-ups have been announced and there are a couple of changes for both outfits. Here is how they will both shape up...
