A Jimmy Nielsen error and a Chris Wingert ejection led to the goals in SKC's stoppage-time win over RSL.Sporting Kansas City beat Real Salt lake 2-1 on Saturday night in Utah.
Salt Lake opened the scoring before the hour mark when Javier Morales floated a free kick into the box. Jimmy Nielsen came to collect, but somehow allowed the ball to slip through his outstretched hands. Robbie Findley reacted quickest to head home, as Nielsen threw himself to the ground in frustration.
In the 66th minute, Soony Saad feigned to let the ball past him and then spun to chase after it on the flank. Chris Wingert pulled Saad down for his second booking of the evening. Down a man, RSL conceded within a minute. A free kick caused a melee in the Real box. Eventually the ball popped to Saad with his back to goal, and the striker wrapped a side-volley around his body and into the net.
Then, in the seventh minute of stoppage time, Ike Opara headed down a Graham Zusi corner kick to win the match.
Salt Lake, top of the MLS standings, hadn't lost since May 11. Kansas City pulled to within a point with the win.
