The LA Galaxy didn't win, but they did manage to deny Real Salt Lake a win in its 2014 home opener.
RSL saw an excellent chance go begging in the second minute. Omar Gonzalez failed to control a bouncing ball at the back that fell to Joao Plata, scorer of the only goal when these teams met March 8, but the forward shot wide despite being on a breakaway.
But Salt Lake wouldn't have to wait too long for its opener. RSL took a free kick short and Plata, seeing Alvaro Saborio criminally unmarked at the back of the box, swung his cross to the Costa Rican. Saborio's task to make it 1-0 was a simple collect-and-shoot job, and he made no mistake.
Robbie Keane equalized right on the 34-minute mark, taking a short pass near the halfway line and dribbling almost unchallenged down the right wing before skipping by Chris Schuler and blasting his shot past Nick Rimando.
Both teams were forced into injury substitutions during the game, with Plata and LA's James Riley exiting the game in the first half.
LA falls to two MLS games without a win this season with a 0-1-1 record, while RSL is undefeated at 1-0-2.
