Portland Timbers 0-0 New England Revolution: Yet another scoreless outing for New England

Otto Greule Jr

In a meeting of the goal-shy and goal-stingy, miserly New England's form won out, as the Revs stole a scoreless draw.

After a two-goal outburst last week, the New England Revolution returned to their scoreless ways, playing to a 0-0 draw against the Portland Timbers at JELD-WEN Field.

The result is the seventh time in eight games involving the Revolution this season that at least one team has finished scoreless, and the fifth time the Revs have been shut out. It is their third scoreless draw.

The game also marks the first time this season the Timbers have failed to score a goal, and Portland's first scoreless draw since May 15, 2012.

Portland had most of the game's chances. Darlington Nagbe was stopped on a breakaway by New England keeper Bobby Shuttleworth in the first half, and saw a powerful effort go over the bar shortly after. In the second half, Shuttleworth again came up big, stopping a close-range Ryan Johnson effort and smothering the rebound on the line.

The draw gives the Revs a 2-3-3 record, good enough for seventh in the East. The Timbers retain the third spot in the West, sitting on 3-1-5.
