Live Commentary

  • Thanks for following along with Goal's commentary. We'll have live play-by-play of Mexico-Martinique in about 30 minutes' time. I'm Rudi Schuller (@rudiSchuller), and it's been my pleasure.
  • Canada exits the tournament with zero goals scored, something that incoming coach Benito Floro will need to take a long look at in order to fix.
  • And that's it! Canada gets eliminated with a 0-0 draw. The effort was there, but once again the team lacked ideas in the final third.
  • 90' + 2'
Borjan gets all the way down the pitch for a free kick, and he is the one closest to getting his head on it. A bit of a keeper on keeper tussle there.
  • 90' + 1'
We're into stoppage. Three minutes added.
  • 89'
Substitution E. Bonaga Aníbal Cesis Godoy
  • 87'
Cedeno looks to be in some agony after taking a hard knock from Ledgerwood. Nope, he's fine.
  • 84'
Panama corner kick bounces dangerous throw the Canadian area, but it somehow goes untouched for a Canada throw-in.
  • 81'
    Substitution Kyle Bekker Issey Nakajima-Farran
Canada throwing every attacking option out there, as Nakajima-Farran has the ability to get forward.
  • 80'
Into the last 10 minutes of regulation, and the game is really opening up.
  • 77'
Canada gets a nice bit of passing going, ending in a very hopeful shot from Kyle Porter. The 25-yard effort goes well wide.
  • 76'
    Substitution R. Blackburn C. Waterman
  • 75'
Porter draws a foul near the left touch line with a good run. Osorio takes the free kick, which jusdt needed a touch to evade the onrushing Panama GK Mejia. No one can get to it, and it's punched clear.
  • 73'
    Substitution J. Pérez G. Gómez
  • 72'
Dixon gets hit square in the groin trying to block a Ledgerwood cross. The Panamanian is rightfully down. Ouch.
  • 70'
Jimenez down again after colliding with Borjan. The Canadian GK shows some concern for the Panamanian, who eventually gets back to his feet.
  • 65'
Substitution Marcel de Jong Kyle Porter
Another attacking player on. Not surprising.
  • 64'
Free kick for Panama right outside the Canadian area after Jiminez goes down rather easily. The delivery sails over everyone and out for a Canadian throw-in.
  • 63'
Blackburn on the pitch after getting bowled over by Henry. He looks to be okay.
  • 58'
    Substitution Pedro Pacheco Tosaint Ricketts
Ricketts will bring in an element of speed to the front line, as Haber has been very isolated up top so far. No use holding back, as Canada requires a goal or more.
  • 57'
Osorio draws a free kick by the far touch line. Bekker floats in a nice ball, but Haber couldn't quite get his head on it.
  • 54'
Pacheco gets away with a late challenge. Not good stuff there from the Canadian.
  • 48'
SAVE BORJAN! A 35 yard blast by Jiminez gets punched out by the Canadian keeper. The ensuing corner is well dealt with by Canada.
  • 46'
And the game is back on!
  • Teams are heading back on to the pitch for the final 45 minutes.
  • Look for the game to open up in the second half as Canada looks for that essential goal. The Canadians need to score, which could give Panama some counterattack opportunities and put the Canadian back line under pressure.
  • Overall, it's been a fairly even match. Canada seemed to have more of the purposeful possession, especially during that stretch around the 30 minute mark when the Canucks pinned Panama back for large stretches. However, Panama had arguably the best chance of the game so far when Perez put a free headers wide, so it's really been a wash as to which team has been better.
  • After 45 minutes, we're still waiting for the first goal in the one.
  • 45' + 1'
    One minute added on.
  • 43'
Panama has upped the pressure in the last fe minutes, after looking second best for most of the half. Still, neither side has been dazzling out there.
  • 39'
CLOSE CALL! Blas Perez nearly puts Panama up with a free header from within 10 yards, but he misses the target. That was the best chance for Panama, so far.
  • 35'
Corner to Panama after Borjan punches a free kick clear. The set piece once again leads to nothing.
  • 34'
There have been some very curious fouls called so far in this game, mostly against Marcus Haber. To be fair, Panama has felt hard done by on a couple of instances too.
  • 29'
Panama gets a free kick after a Pacheco foul 30 yards from goal. Like the Canadians' efforts so far, it's a nice lofted ball in that doesn't amount to anything. Both sides looking strong defensively in the early going, although there has been the odd mistake.
  • 28'
ALMOST! A Canada corner kick finds Edgar, whose header should have found the net but instead play fizzles out.
  • 27'
Canada has had roughly 60% possession so far, which is astonishing given recent history. Strong play by the young Canucks, but they need to capitalize.
  • 26'
Bekker's free kick is cleared, but again there is a bit of a ping pong match in the Panamanian defensive third leading to a half-chance for the Canadians. Nothing comes of it.
  • 25'
    Yellow Card Jean Cedeño
De Jong taken down as he races past the Panama defence. Free kick and yellow card.
  • 24'
Morgan knocks a Panamanian off the ball and advances up the field, but the player remains down on the pitch, drawing some boos from the sparse crowd.
  • 23'
Canada with some sustained possession, but again lacking ideas in the final third.
  • 21'
Corner to Canada after some good interplay by TFC teammates Osorio and Morgan. Bekker takes the kick, and it's cleared out, but Canada gets another couple of chances to pump it back into the box. The play fizzles out for a goal kick, in the end.
  • 18'
CLOSE CALL! Panama pushes into the Canadian area and an errant ball falls to Morgan, who clears it directly to a Panamanian player. The shot is well off-target, which is a bit unfortunate as it was a point-blank chance.
  • 16'
Momentum has shifted slightly towards Canada, as they seem to be passig the ball around a little easier over the past ine minutes. Neither team threatening as yet, though.
  • 12'
Corner to Canada. De Jong takes it, and it's headed out for a throw-in for Canada. In the ensuing play, Haber commits a foul and Panama is off the hook.
  • 11'
Free kick to Panama from 30 yards after Pacheco bowled over Perez rather needlessly. The delivery is awful from Jiminez, however, and the ball sails way high and wide.
  • 9'
Panama settling things down a bit now, looking the more comfortable of the two sides, even if the lion's share of possession has come in the middle of the pitch.
  • 6'
Osorio goes down in the box trying to get around a defender, but the ref waves play on. Both teams a bit tentative so far.
  • 4'
First corner of the game goes to Panama. It's easily handled by the Canadian defence.
  • 1'
    We're underway in Denver!
  • Anthems are done. Almost ready to go.
  • Any draw between Mexico and Martinique would all-but-eliminate Canada, even if the Cancucks win. If Canada loses, then it doesn't matter, anyway.
  • The match takes platch at Sports Authroity Field in Denver, home of the NFL's Broncos. It's the first of two matches on the day, with Mexico-Martinique headlining the double feature.
  • Pedro Pacheco and Ashtone Morgan step into Canada's starting XI, with Marcel De Jong pushing further up the pitch to take on a more attacking role. Marcus Haber was doubtful in the lead-up to the match as he suffered an ankle injury in the midweek clash vs. Mexico, but he has recovered enough to get the nod here today.
  • Canada's subs bench: GK Hirschfeld, GK Thomas, Straith, Piette, Aleman, Nakajima-Farran, Porter, Ricketts.
  • Canada's starting XI: Borjan; Ledgerwood, Henry, Edgar, Morgan; De Guzman (c), Pacheco, Osorio, Bekker, De Jong; Haber.
  • Canada has made a couple of changes to the lineup, but Colin Miller's hand is really forced with the sheer number of absences that has befallen the squad over the course of the tournament.
  • Panama's subs bench: GK Penedo, GK A. Rodriguez, Parris, C. Rodriguez, R. Torres, Gomez, G. Torres, Waterman, Miller, Quintero, Godoy.
  • Panama's starting XI: GK Mejia; Cummings, B. Perez (c), Sanchez, Bonagas, Cedeno, J. Perez, Blackburn, Jimenez, Dixon, Chen.
  • The Panamanians, on the other hand, are sitting pretty atop Group A with a perfect 2-0 start. A draw would clinch the group for the Central Americans, but they are assured of an appearance in the quarterfinals either way. With that in mind, they've made 9 changes from their previous match...
  • Canada heads into this game absolutely needing a win at all costs, and preferably by a few goals. At 0-2, the Canadians can still advance as one of the third place teams with a victory today, but it'll need help not only from within the group, but also from outside.
  • Hello and welcome to Goal's LIVE coverage of Panama-Canada. I'm Goal Canada chief editor Rudi Schuller (@RudiSchuller on Twitter), and I'll be providing you with up-to-the-minute commentary on the match.
