The first-ever draw between these I-95 neighbors leaves the top of the Eastern Conference incredibly close. For the first time ever, a game between the New York Red Bulls and the Philadelphia Union ended in a draw and without any goals.
Philadelphia's best chance came in the 73rd minute, when a strike by Sebastien Le Toux from outside the box beat Luis Robles but cannoned back off the crossbar. The Union went close again late when Luis Robles positioned himself well to touch away Antoine Hoppenot's off-balance shot.
The Red Bulls had their fair share of chances as well, working a number of aerial balls into the penalty area. Union keeper Zac Macmath generally coped well and made a number of stops, the biggest of which was a stoppage time grab on the goal line.
New York remains second in the East, equal with leader Kansas City on points (39) and goals scored (36) but trailing on goal difference. The Union are in a similar tie with Montreal, as both teams are on 38 points with 36 goals for.
