New York Red Bulls 2-1 Philadelphia Union: Late Henry intervention gives Red Bulls first win

Philadelphia Union

Thierry Henry scored his first goal of the year to give his team its first win of the season over its southern neighbor.

HARRISON, NJ -- The New York Red Bulls picked up their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Union.

Dax McCarty scored for New York in the 54th minute. With a Juninho pass coming to him and his back to goal, McCarty redirected the ball into the far post of the Union net, where it rebounded past Zac McMath to give the home side the advantage.

It didn't last long. Conor Casey, who was brought on after New York's goal, headed a Sheanon Williams long throw past Luis Robles in the 63rd minute to restore parity to the match.

Substitute Thierry Henry, who went wide with a spectacular bicycle kick in the 76th minute, re-asserted his side's dominance in the 81st minute, controlling a short cross from Peguy Luyindula and finishing his first goal of the season.

The result puts New York 1-2-2 for the season, while Philly falls to 2-2-0.
