MLS Preview: New England Revolution - Seattle Sounders

The Seattle Sounders

The Sounders are ripping up their opposition right now, and it will be a tall task if the Revolution hope to halt their progress.

The Seattle Sounders are running away with the West, but a trip East could see their progress halted.

The Rave Green are averaging a Major League Soccer-best 2.2 goals per game, for a conveniently identical MLS-best 2.2 points per game. Clint Dempsey leads the league with eight goals, while Obafemi Martins tops the assists list with six. After a mixed 2-2-1 opening, the Sounders have roared ahead of the pack with five straight wins, including two victories against previous leader FC Dallas.

New England isn't quite up to Seattle's level this season, but the Revolution are in pretty hot form at the moment with three wins from their last four. That good run has seen them join Kansas City, Houston and New York at the top of the Eastern Conference on 14 points. They've had trouble finding the net, though, and are the only top-half team still on a single-digit goal tally.

Seattle forward Chad Barrett could face his former team; the striker spent the 2013 campaign with the Revolution. Similarly, New England midfielder Shalrie Joseph spent last year with the Sounders.

Joseph won't be playing though, as he's sidelined with a calf strain, joining teammates Jose Goncalves (R quad strain) and Kevin Alston (L hamstring strain). Seattle defenders Leo Gonzalez (R hamstring strain) and Dylan Remick (L ankle sprain) are questionable, while Damion Lowe (L hip injury) and Kevin Parsemain (ACL tear) are definitely out.

All-time, the teams are even head-to-head, with three wins for each team and a pair of draws shared between the two. But the Revolution haven't won against the Sounders in almost four years, their last win over the Emerald City side coming in Sept. 2010.
