New England Revolution 2-0 Houston Dynamo: Alston nets first MLS goal in win over Houston

Kevin Alston scored his first MLS goal and a late mistake from Tally Hall helped hand the Revs a 2-0 win.

The New England Revolution got their second win of the year on Saturday, taking a 2-0 result against the Houston Dynamo.

The first half was played in the fashion that has come to be expected when these two teams meet, with tackles flying in and no love lost, but no goals coming either. In the second half the home side settled down and managed to take a lead with a nice goal midway through the half.

Kevin Alston got his first MLS goal after five years with the Revs and leave of absence to battle leukemia, scoring in the 68th minute with a rifle of a shot from just inside Houston's box. An exchange of passes between Daigo Kobayashi and Alston broke down, but Kobayashi was able to play in Teal Bunbury. The big forward managed to push the ball into Alston's path and hold off a defender, leaving Alston with plenty of time to fire home.

That lead looked comfortable enough, but a late mistake from Tally Hall in the Houston goal let New England put a little gloss on the scoreline.

A decision not to clear when he had the chance left Hall stranded and Jerry Bengtson took full advantage, claiming the ball as his own and sliding it home to give the game its final score.

With the win New England jumps above Houston in the Eastern Conference standings, though the Dynamo have a game in hand on the Revs.
