New England Revolution 0-1 Chicago Fire: Early goal holds for Fire

USA Today

A strike inside the opening three minutes held firm as Chicago claimed a win over New England.

Quincy Amarikwa's early strike was the difference as Chicago went to New England and walked away with a 1-0 win Saturday.

With just over two minutes played in the match, Mike Magee picked out a decent ball over the top for Amarikwa to run onto. Amarikwa managed to hold off Andrew Farrell and clipped his shot over Revolution goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth and in for the early lead.

Chris Tierney tested Sean Johnson with a curling free kick in the 60th minute, but the Chicago goalkeeper was able to push the ball wide of his post to keep his team in front.

Johnson would be called on again minutes later, coming off his line quickly to deny Kelyn Rowe, but the biggest save of the night came just minutes from the end when the big keeper kept out a New England penalty to seal the win.

The result moves Chicago up two places in the Eastern Conference standings with the club just four points back of the Revolution and the playoff spots.
