Montreal Impact 2-1 D.C. United: Di Vaio double gives Impact three points

With a goal in each half, Marco Di Vaio helped Montreal to a 2-1 win against lowly DC United in a game where both coaches were shown red cards.

The Montreal Impact won its second consecutive home game on Saturday at Saputo Stadium with a 2-1 win over Eastern conference cellar dweller D.C. United. After Marco Di Vaio scored in the first half, DC tied it late in the second through Conor Doyle and seemed destined for a draw, but Di Vaio scored a second to give the Impact maximum points on the night.

At the end of a scoreless first half, the Impact took the lead just before the break. Justin Mapp went deep down the left flank, beating James Riley and cutting a low cross into the box. Felipe Martins fooled two D.C. defenders with a dummy and allowed the ball to fall to the loosely-marked Marco Di Vaio, who finished high past Hamid.

In the second half, DC equalized in the 81st minute. After a penetrating pass from Luis Silva, Conor Doyle found some space in between two Impact defenders and placed a low shot past goalkeeper Troy Perkins and into the goal.

The Impact responded two minutes later as Di Vaio managed to turn DC defender Dejan Jakovic inside out and place a shot right into the top corner past 'keeper Bill Hamid.

The second half was marred by the ejections of both teams' head coaches. Ben Olson and Marco Schallibaum were sent off halfway through the second half following several altercations on the touchline.
