Both sides are desperate for victory, with the Timbers still winless this year and the Dynamo coming off a heavy defeat.
Portland, at 0-3-4, has the second-worst points per game in Major League Soccer, and averaging just over a goal per game, the second-worst attack. Four of the Timbers' eight goals came in their 4-4 draw against Seattle, and they enter this game not having scored in 173 minutes.
Houston is in similarly poor shape, and carries a whopping 319-minute scoreless streak of its own into the match. The Dynamo last won March 15, and have lost four of their last five — including a 4-0 setback to the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday.
Will Bruin is usually the Dynamo's biggest offensive threat, but he's been barren since scoring three goals in the first two games of the season. Captain Brad Davis is still an injury doubt going into this game after missing Wednesday's match with an ankle sprain.
Portland is still without the injured Rodney Wallace, while Steve Zakuani is listed as a doubt.
These teams met just once last season, with Portland winning 2-0 on April 6. Ryan Johnson, who left the Timbers in the offseason, scored both goals.
