The home side got three goals, two of which came from defenders, to defeat New England to move top of the East.

D.C. United moved into first place in the Eastern Conference Saturday night with a 3-2 home win over the New England Revolution. Brandon McDonald, Dejan Jakovic and Maicon Santos grabbed the goals for United, with Saer Sene and A.J. Soares scoring for New England.

The home team went 2-0 up in the first half. First, McDonald finished off a free kick from Dejan Jakovic, scoring with his head. Just before the half, Jakovic made it two, finishing off a scramble from a set piece.

New England fought right back in the second half, though, leveling the score within the first five minutes. First, Sene tapped home a rebound from Bill Hamid off a long Benny Feilhaber shot. Just a couple minutes later, Soares scored with a near-post header.

United ended up grabbing a winner through Santos in the 61st minute. Dwayne De Rosario found the Brazilian, who finished well to give D.C. the advantage and ultimately the win.

With the victory, D.C. United moved a point ahead of New York atop the Eastern Conference standings, though the Red Bulls do have two fewer games played.
