MLS Preview: D.C. United - Montreal Impact

MLS Preview: D.C. United - Montreal Impact

Eric Hartline

The home side is looking for its fifth win of the season, while the visitors will hope to earn their second.

The Montreal Impact got their first big result of the season Wednesday, coming back to win a thrilling Canadian Championship semifinal on a 5-4 aggregate score against FC Edmonton.

The challenge for Montreal will be to carry that momentum into MLS play, in which it has a dismal 1-5-3 record this season.

D.C. United will host the Impact on Saturday at RFK Stadium (7 p.m. ET, MLS Live). The Black-and-Red have been in good form this season, and their 1-0 win at Philadelphia last weekend was their first away victory since 2012.

United also received a boost this week when Eddie Johnson was surprisingly left off Jurgen Klinsmann’s 30-man provisional World Cup squad, meaning the striker — still searching for his first DCU goal — will be available to face the Impact.

Right back Sean Franklin will likely miss his third straight game for United with a foot injury. For Montreal, striker Marco Di Vaio (hamstring) and center back Matteo Ferrari (calf) are questionable after missing the team’s last three games in all competitions. Fullback Eric Miller (thigh) also is questionable and midfielder Collen Warner is suspended.
