Dillon Powers opened the scoring in the 20th minute, turning well to control a ball from Marvell Wynne before slotting home with his left foot.
In the 35th minute Deshorn Brown was taken down in the Vancouver box by Nigel Reo-Coker, earning the Rapids a chance to increase their lead from the spot. Vicente Sanchez converted the penalty to give Colorado a commanding lead at the break.

A late push from the Whitecaps did not produce any goals, and the Rapids picked up three points to keep the team in the top three of the Western Conference.
The loss was Vancouver's first in league play since being beaten by the LA Galaxy in early April.
