Colorado Rapids 0-1 Seattle Sounders FC: Martins goal gives Sounders first win

The Sounders big-name DP acquisition came through in the first half, getting his team off the mark for the 2013 season.

The Seattle Sounders FC finally got their first win of the 2013 MLS season, as an Obafemi Martins goal was enough in a 1-0 win over the Colorado Rapids at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

Desperate for a win, Seattle gingerly played out the first part of the match, studying Colorado's last minute lineup change, as the home side scratched Edson Buddle just before game time.

The Sounders' patience paid off in the 27th minute as Obafemi Martins scored on a rebound off a shot by Shalrie Joseph.  The Designated Player celebrated his first MLS goal with his signature backflip, giving the Sounders a 1-0 halftime lead.

The Rapids injury curse struck again in the 54th minute when defender Marvell Wynne suffered a right quad strain after clearing the ball. As the end of the game drew near, the Rapids’ desire to score increased. Drew Moor connected with a free kick from Kamani Hill, but Sounders keeper Michael Gspurning made the final save.

The final whistle blew with a 1-0 score, meaning Seattle added to its six-game winning streak over the Rapids, and earned its first win of the season.
