Two mistakes from overzealous goalkeepers cost the visitors as Colorado picked up three points.A pair of second-half penalties doomed the Portland Timbers to a 2-0 loss against the Colorado Rapids in a game that saw a player on either side sent off.
The first goal and red card came when Donovan Ricketts was ejected in the 71st minute. The Jamaican shot-stopper was given his marching orders for lunging out against Deshorn Brown and kicking the Rapids forward in the torso. Vicente Sanchez stepped up and converted the spot kick past replacement Andrew Weber.
The second goal followed almost immediately on the heels of the first. Weber was shown yellow for catching Sanchez's feet in the box. Brown's initial penalty was saved, but he had no problems pouncing on the reboung to make it 2-0.
The only blemish on the afternoon for Colorado was the late dismissal of Jose Mari, who committed two harsh fould in the dying minutes to pick up a pair of yellow cards.
Colorado remains undefeated for the year with a 1-0-1 record, while Portland, a preseason favorite, is winless with at 0-1-2.
