MLS Preview: Chivas USA - Real Salt Lake

MLS Preview: Chivas USA - Real Salt Lake

RSL looks to get back on track against the struggling Goats at the StubHub Center.

Real Salt Lake is in a bit of a funk, but at least the Western Conference’s second place team will be able to face the league’s joint-worst team Saturday.

After going unbeaten in its first 12 MLS matches, RSL is winless (0-2-2) in its last four. Jeff Cassar’s men fell 2-1 to the NASL’s Atlanta Silverbacks in their first U.S. Open Cup game on June 14.

RSL will look to stem the tide when it travels to Chivas USA on Saturday evening (10:30 p.m. ET, MLS Live).

It won’t be easy though, with several notable absences. Chief among them are Nick Rimando and Kyle Beckerman, still off with the U.S. national team at the World Cup. Alvaro Saborio is out 2-3 months after breaking a bone in his foot, while Ned Grabavoy will miss the game with a hip flexor issue.

Chivas USA (2-7-5, 11 points), which also fell in U.S. Open Cup action against lower-division opposition, will be with midfielders Oswaldo Minda (Ecuador) and Marvin Chavez (Honduras) because of international duty.
