A safe pair of hands and looked assured when called upon, but he was never truly tested by Athletic's forwards until late on, when he made a stunning save to deny Susaeta.
Almost scored an own goal when he cut out a dangerous ball from Muniain. Was caused problems by the youngster's pace but his partnership with Godin looked good and he was an occasional threat at the other end.
Did really well to block a Fernando Llorente shot in the second half and got up and down the flank with some energetic running.
Occasionally rash in the center of the Atletico defense but produced some important blocks and did well in the battle with Fernando Llorente.
Given plenty to think about by Muniain but stood up to his young rival and used all experience to cut out the supply line on his side of the pitch. Didn't get forward very much but defended well and kept his discipline.
Excellent link-up play from the Brazilian, who caused constant problems for Athletic as he drove the ball forward and also sent a shot into the side netting in the first half. Sealed the win with a wonderful run and shot late in the game.
Bright early on, the winger set up Adrian for the first chance of the match with a good cross in the opening minutes and later tested Gorka with a shot from the edge of the box 10 minutes from time. Almost assisted Falcao right at the end, too.
Saw one low drive easily saved by Gorka and smashed a free kick into the wall later in the game, but kept his discipline in central midfield, worked incredibly hard and was a big help to his defense.
Did a disciplined job in central midfield for Simeone's side as he flew into tackles and rarely allowed Atletic players any time on the ball. Was quick to release the ball to his forwards as well.
Threatened with a header early on and took up some great positions throughout the game. Caused Athletic problems with his intelligent running but never really came close to scoring.
Simply sensational. The Colombian striker scored a brilliant opener when there seemed to be nothing on, invented a second with his back to goal as he turned and slotted home and was so unlucky not to hit a hat trick as his second-half effort rebounded off the post.
Cut a frustrated figure as his side were clearly second best on the night. Made several good stops but could do nothing about any of the goals, which were all excellent.
Produced some decent defending including one key intervention to dispossess Falcao, but was caused plenty of problems by the Colombian and allowed him far too much space in the seventh minute as 'El Tigre' turned and hit a stunning opener.
Turned too easily by Falcao for the second goal and shown up at times in the full back position. Replaced at the interval.
Did well to reduce the threat of Adrian and Arda Turan, got forward well and almost set up Llorente with an excellent cross into the area in the second period. Wasn't to blame for any of the goals.
Booked for a rash challenge on Diego in the first half, that challenge was perhaps a sign of frustration from the forward. Didn't see as much of the ball as he would have liked and aside from one dangerous effort, never looked like scoring either.
Looked out of his depth in the center of midfield both defensively and when he had the ball. A poor performance saw him offer little protection to his back four and he was replaced at the break.
Nothing he tried really came off in attack. His attempts to link up with his teammates were often thwarted and he had little luck in front of goal as one effort was deflected late on and another well saved by Courtois moments later when he really should have scored.
Has had an excellent season but was really shown up on the night as he was pulled all over the place by Atletico's attacker. Particularly at fault in the third goal and fared little better when he ventured forward. Athletic could have done with him in midfield.
Huffed and puffed but it didn't quite happen from him on the night. His shooting could have been better and he ran the ball too far at times, once advancing all the way to the box late in the game but then losing the ball on the edge of the area. Energetic, but below his best.
Volleyed one effort over the bar from outside the box and linked up well with Muniain, but struggled to find space to really do any damage against an organized Atletico back line.
Came off second best in the duel with Falcao and never looked likely to do damage. One effort from close range was blocked, a header was off target and another was a mis-hit volley which went wide anyway. Worked hard, but not his night.
Came on at halftime but never really got into the game.
Was a real handful after coming on at the break and popped up all over the place. Produced some silky skills as he ran with the ball, but didn't have enough support. Crashed a thunderous effort against the bar late on.
Unable to catch Diego as he tracked back for the third goal and made little inroads in attack after coming on as a substitute.
