Player Ratings: Norwich 3-4 Manchester City

Roberto Mancini's side edged the clash at Carrow Road thanks to excellent performances from Aguero and Dzeko, while Samir Nasri earned a red card.

    Mark Bunn

Bunn could do little about City’s first three goals as the defending was not great, but should have stopped their fourth as he was beaten at the near post. Not his finest performance.

  • Russell Martin

    Russell Martin

Captained Norwich in the absence of Holt, and took on the goal-scoring mantle too, grabbing two. However, the Scot was lured away from Dzeko for the first goal, giving the Bosnian an easy finish, while he rarely halted Silva or Clichy when they attacked down his flank. A mixed bag, really.

  • S. Bassong

    S. Bassong

A performance full of ups and downs for the Cameroonian. At fault in the build-up to City’s first goal, completely missing a header as Zabaleta played the ball forward from the back, and he was not aware of Dzeko’s position for the Bosnian’s second goal. Did, however, make some fantastic tackles, none more so than the one which resulted in Samir Nasri’s red card and got an assist for Martin’s first goal.

  • Michael Turner

    Michael Turner

Failed to track Dzeko for either goal despite being in the vicinity and often looked a little lost. Struggled against the Bosnian generally in open play, too, with his hold-up play and control giving Turner little chance of stealing the ball.

  • Javier Garrido

    Javier Garrido

The Spaniard was facing one of his former clubs, but they certainly did not give him an easy afternoon. He was up against Sergio Aguero for much of the match and had little answer to him. The Argentine’s quick feet were too much for him and he looked uncomfortable for much of the match.

  • Bradley Johnson

    Bradley Johnson

Battled away, but will be angry at losing out to Kompany in the run up to Dzeko’s second goal, gifting the Belgian an opportunity to march unchallenged through the centre. The former Leeds man’s passing was accurate, but not particularly adventurous and he did little to counter Toure’s presence.

  • Robert Snodgrass

    Robert Snodgrass

The Scot was dangerous in the first period, winning the free kick for Pilkington’s goal and generally seeing a lot of the possession. Quieter after the break but was still probably Norwich’s most influential attacker. Delivered an excellent cross for Bassong before Martin’s goal.

  • Anthony Pilkington

    Anthony Pilkington

Perhaps not as involved as he would have liked as he had a tough afternoon against Zabaleta, but he did get a goal and helped keep the Argentine from surging forward constantly.

  • Wesley Hoolahan

    Wesley Hoolahan

The midfielder was buzzing everywhere when on the pitch, but too often he resorted to booting the ball up to Morison and it rarely worked out. Perhaps taken off too early as the match became very open late on.

  • Alexander Tettey

    Alexander Tettey

One of the Norwegian’s less impressive displays since his move from Rennes. He struggled with Barry and Toure, rarely pressing the Ivorian.

  • Steve Morison

    Steve Morison

The Welshman was a nuisance physically, but Kompany and Nastasic dealt with him fairly well on the whole. He had very few openings and was rather quiet.

    Jonny Howson

Replaced the less-than impressive Tettey to good effect, passing well, forcing Hart into two good saves and tackling excellently.

  • Harry Kane

    Harry Kane

The Spurs loanee played for about 30 minutes, but touched the ball probably no more than five times. Very quiet.

  • K. Jackson

    K. Jackson

Introduced to add some speed in attack, but Kompany, Nastasic and Lescott dealt with him easily.

  • Joe Hart

    Joe Hart

Far from his finest performance. Could not have done much about two of Norwich’s goals, but the third he flapped at a corner, before failing to prevent the ball from crossing the line despite getting a hand to the shot. Looked very nervous late on.

  • Vincent Kompany

    Vincent Kompany

A good display for much of the match, but will be disappointed that he could not prevent any of Norwich’s goals, as he was effectively in the wrong place at the wrong time. Played an excellent role in his side’s second and bossed the Norwich attackers in the air.

  • Pablo Zabaleta

    3.00

    Pablo Zabaleta

His distribution from the back was excellent and he was lively in the first half, but although he dealt with Pilkington well from a defensive perspective, the winger’s presence meant he could not get forward as often as he would have liked.

  • Gael Clichy

    Gael Clichy

The Frenchman had his hands full with Snodgrass, but when up against the winger he did well enough, while he also threatened in attack. A good performance, all-in-all.

  • Matija Nastasic

    Matija Nastasic

Comfortable for a lot of the match, but in the second half he did not do a good enough job of cleaning up in the area, particularly at corners, with two Norwich goals coming from them. Had the better of Morison when he came up against him.

  • Samir Nasri

Samir Nasri Flop of the Match

Had very little effect, and then reacted angrily to strong challenge by Bassong which saw him get a red card. Luckily for him and his team, the incident did not cost them the match, but it was a ludicrous reaction.

  • Gareth Barry

    Gareth Barry

The England midfielder was not particularly noticeable in truth. He passed well and put in a few tackles, but it was Toure who generally did most of the clever work in midfield.

  • David Silva

    David Silva

The little Spaniard glided everywhere in attack and everything just seemed so effortless. He got himself an assist for the opening goal and linked up very well with both Dzeko and Aguero. Norwich had little answer for him, but he was taken off relatively early.

  • Yaya Touré

    Yaya Touré

The Ivorian surged forward, tracked back and had a role in two City goals. He was unlucky not to finish with at least one goal of his own, but he bossed the centre of the pitch and impressed.

  • Edin Dzeko

Edin Dzeko Top of the Match

Restored to the starting line up and repaid Mancini’s faith with two goals in the first five minutes. Will claim a hat-trick after his shot found its way into the net via Mark Bunn, and rightly so. His overall play was very good as he held the ball up excellently and brought his fellow attackers into the match brilliantly.

  • Sergio Agüero

    Sergio Agüero

Seemed to be involved in everything City did attacking-wise. Played a clever one-two with Dzeko in the build-up to the opener, set-up his second and got himself a lovely goal. On any other day he could have had a hat-trick. Fantastic performance.

Substitutions

  • Joleon Lescott

On for the final 10 minutes to secure a defensively-sound end to the match. Did his job well.

Came on for Silva midway through the second half, but did not do much more than Barry. Sat deep and attempted to break play up.

On as City wasted time at the end.
