LA Galaxy benefited from a healthy Landon Donovan and newly-signed Christian Wilhelmsson to earn a 2-0 win over the Colorado Rapids.
Despite missing David Beckham through injury, the Galaxy broke down the Rapids defense with a nifty passing move when Landon Donovan quickly put the ball at the feet of Robbie Keane. The Irishmen scored his 12th goal of the season, and gave LA the first goal of the match.
The second half began with Colorado struggling to tie it up. Josh Saunders and the Galaxy defense proved unbreakable.
Making a memorable MLS debut, Swedish midfielder Christian Wilhelmsson gave LA the 2-0 lead in the 58th minute, breaking the offside trap and benefiting from a Matt Pickens fumble to notch his first MLS goal.
Veterans Conor Casey and Brian Mullan were put into the match as late substitutions for the Colorado Rapids, but were unable to impact the final score. Casey had the best chance when he rounded Josh Saunders, but Marcelo Sarvas slid to block the shot on the goal line. Sarvas also recorded assists on both Galaxy goals.
The Galaxy's 2-0 victory pushed LA into third place in the Western Conference.
