Toronto FC 2-2 New England Revolution: Revs snatch late draw in Toronto

It was heartbreak again for Toronto FC boss Paul Mariner, who once more saw his team cough up a late lead.

Chris Tierney, Terry Dunfield: Toronto FC - New England Revolution
Abelimages
Chris Tierney slammed home a header deep into stoppage time to earn the New England Revolution a 2-2 draw with Toronto FC.

The Canadian outfit looked set to get its first win under manager Paul Mariner after getting off to a fast start. The club was a goal to the good inside five minutes when Danny Koevermans nodded home a header. The lead was doubled just before the break when Ryan Johnson followed the Dutchman's lead and knocked home a header of his own.

New England got a lifeline when Blake Brettschneider scored 71 minutes in to pull his team back to within one goal, but as the match moved into the dying minutes it seemed as though TFC would be able to weather the storm.

Milos Kocic was impressive in the Toronto goal as he saved several good attempts from the Revs, including a Tierney free kick that he pushed away. The goalkeeper also got some help from the woodwork when Benny Feilhaber smashed a shot off the post.

But Kocic couldn't keep his team in front. Tierney headed home Flo Lechner's cross with virtually the final touch of the game to spoil what could would have been a wonderful first win at home for Mariner against the team he made his mark on MLS with.
