Sporting Kansas City 0-0 Chicago Fire: Toothless Sporting unable to capitalize
Sporting dominated possession, but was unable to find the net in a battle for Midwestern bragging rights
By Keith Hickey
Ed Zurga
Sporting Kansas City was unable to turn possession dominance into goals, as the Chicago Fire snuck out of Sporting Park with their first point of 2013.
Coming off a surprise loss to Toronto FC, Sporting ran the game with 72.9 percent possession, and at times threatened to overrun the Fire defense creating 20 attempts on goal and winning seven corner kicks, but Chicago held on to get a draw after opening the season with two losses.
Sporting's best chance of the evening came on the hour mark. Left back Seth Sinovic put a low cross right into the path of the unmarked Claudio Bieler, but Chicago goalkeeper Sean Johnson made a crucial desperate dive to touch the ball away.
The result leaves KC in second place in the East for the time being, while Chicago still occupies the bottom spot.
