The 10 best Premier League summer signings
10. Mamadou Sakho
Mamadou Sakho to Liverpool from PSG for £14.5m
With the signings of Kolo Toure, Tiago Ilori and Sakho, Liverpool have significantly strengthened their defence this season. Add these new names to existing centre-backs Daniel Agger, Martin Skrtel and Sebastian Coates and the Reds arguably have the most well-stocked rear-guard in the Premier League. Of the new recruits, the name that stands out most is Sakho. At age just 23 he is already an established France international and was a regular at the back for PSG. He became the youngest ever captain at PSG and in Ligue 1 when he made his league debut at just 17 (albeit because then-manager Paul Le Guen wanted to shake things up). His career has been marked by indiscretions and rebelliousness, yet he has managed to stay on task in recent years and develop into one of the most promising young defenders in world football. His no-nonsense and physical style will endear him to Liverpool supporters, who ought to relish the prospect of Sakho spending many years at Anfield.
