Man Utd to take summer spend towards £200m as Mourinho calls for one more signing

Jose Mourinho has called on the Manchester United board to deliver him one more signing in the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils have already spent some £145 million on Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic.

Mourinho, though, revealed that he wanted four key additions before the spending spree started, and that stance has not changed.

That means that United’s outlay could be pushed towards the £200m mark before the deadline passes on August 31.

Mourinho: Matic is a genius

“The squad is good and as I said a few months ago, I was hoping for four players to improve the squad,” Mourinho said following a 2-1 victory over Sampdoria in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday.

“The club did a fantastic job by getting three of them, which is very difficult in the crazy market we’re in now.

“I thank the club. I’ll be happier if they give me four of four but they did a great effort."

United have spent much of the summer being heavily linked with a move for Inter winger Ivan Perisic.

Mourinho: Neymar is not expensive

The Serie A club have attempted to bring an end to the ongoing rumours, with coach Luciano Spalletti stating that “the topic is over”.

Exit talk refuses to go away, though, and Mourinho’s gaze may continue to drift in the direction of his former club as he seeks to complete his squad refresh at Old Trafford.

While the Red Devils have until the end of the month to get any potential deals over the line, they will open their 2017-18 Premier League campaign with a home date against West Ham on August 13 – five days after facing Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup.
