Altidore trades barbs with U.S. teammate Bedoya on Twitter

Bruce Arena’s U.S. national team camp in a few weeks may have just gotten a little more interesting.

U.S. striker Jozy Altidore took to Twitter on Saturday evening, slamming his international teammate Alejandro Bedoya for not being willing to criticize him to his face.

"Nice comment pal," Altidore wrote to Bedoya. "You have a lot to say but never to anyones face. Im surprised.. but I shouldn't be."

Altidore’s Toronto FC met Bedoya’s Philadelphia Union in an MLS match Saturday that ended in a 2-2 draw. It was a chippy affair, which saw Toronto star Sebastian Giovinco injured by Union defender Oguchi Onyewu. The resulting free kick saw Altidore win a penalty, which he scored to level the game at 1-1.

Bedoya took issue with that penalty, saying postgame that Altidore has a history of diving.

"Knowing Jozy, he tends to go down easy in the box, so let's just leave it at that," Bedoya told reporters. "I didn't even see it, but from what I hear it was definitely not a penalty.

"I thought was it was a make-up call for them." 

Bedoya did try to ease tensions not long after Altidore's tweet, posting: "It's a shame quotes get taken out of context. All love man. Congrats on your goal and see you soon bro."

The teams don’t meet again until Aug. 23, but Altidore and Bedoya will likely get a chance to hash out their differences a lot sooner in person, as both will likely be on Arena’s roster for World Cup qualifiers against Honduras on March 24 and Panama on March 28.
