Reluctant to be a back-up option in north London, Szczesny embraced the chance to spread his wings and is currently taking in a second season on loan at Roma, where he has been a regular.

The Serie A title challengers have expressed a desire to sign him on a permanent basis and while the 26-year-old admits it would be difficult to sever ties with Arsenal, he fully intends to be first choice somewhere in 2017-18.

“I have another four months at Roma. I am thinking about playing well, rather than thinking about where I will be next season.
