Dani Alves given three-match ban after screaming at referee

Dani Alves has been handed a three-match ban after receiving a straight red for dissent picked up against Lyon.

PSG fell 2-1 to their nearest challenger in Ligue 1 on Sunday, with the Brazilian defender sent off with the match finely poised at 1-1 in 57th minute.

Memphis Depay hit a winner in stoppage time, helping Lyon close the gap at the top to just eight points.

A late challenge on Tanhisguy Ndombele saw Alves called for a foul, but his reaction in the face of the match official proved to be cause for a straight red card to be issued.

The LFP also apparently took issue with the former Barcelona star's action, giving three matches on the bench and a fourth match that will be added onto the automatic ban should he pick up another red card.

The Brazilian didn't help his cause any after the match, doubling down on his actions on social media.

"Decisions were taken, the battle was already lost, but I continue to think that Mr Referee lost his way with this decision. Since when has disagreeing equalled a lack of respect," he wrote on Instagram.

"If you want to say that it was my fault, you can, that is free, and, likewise I have shoulders that are considerably large and a pair of balls that ensure I am always standing upright."

PSG face Montpellier in Ligue 1 on Saturday before taking on Rennes in a Coupe de la Ligue semi-final midweek.
