Australia likely to face Colombia in pre-World Cup friendly

They may not have a coach in the wake of Ange Postecoglou's resignation, but the Socceroos might have found a useful opponent as a warm up for the 2018 World Cup in Russia in the form of Colombia.

The South American nation, ranked 13th in the world, are set to face France in March next year with respected Colombian journalist Diego Rueda reporting Australia is set to be their second opponent.

Incidentally both France and the Socceroos have been drawn in Group C for the World Cup so Colombia could well prove an ideal measuring stick leading up to the event.

With Peru also drawn in Group C, Colombia would give the Socceroos some insight into the type of football they can expect against their South American opponents come June.

Colombia sealed the final automatic qualifying spot for the World Cup from South America with Peru finishing one spot behind and only securing qualification after beating New Zealand in a playoff.

The possible fixture could also prove useful for Colombia who face Asian qualifier Japan in Group H and could therefore benefit from testing themselves against the 2015 Asian Cup winners.
