Antwi yet to decide whether to play World Cup with Egypt

Ghanaian and Al Makasa striker John Antwi says he is yet to decide whether he would naturalise and represent Egypt over Ghana on the international stage.

The 25-year-old has received petitions from a section of Egyptian fans urging him to make a nationality switch in favour of the Pharaohs ahead of the 2018 Fifa World Cup holding in Russia.

With Antwi having a blistering form this season in the Egyptian Premier League, scoring nine goals in ten games, there have been suggestions he could partner Mohammed Salah upfront at the World Cup.

“I have not thought about representing Egypt so I can’t say my decision but will certainly decide if the proposal comes,” Antwi told Footballmadeinghana.

“So far, the season has been really good for me as I have scored nine goals and provided two assists in ten games.

"However, as a team, I think we need to do more looking at the position we are on the table [to be able to achieve our goals at the end of the season],” he added.

Although, Antwi made his debut for Ghana against Saudi Arabia in October, he is still eligible to represent the North African country should they press him to naturalise since that game was not a competitive one.
