Two big games in WA and tasty clashes between former NSL stalwarts and A-League heavyweights are among the highlights as Australian football's new knockout competition takes shape
Coached by ex-Socceroo Chris Coyne, the team that finished second in the 2013 WA NPL are at home to Kevin Muscat's A-League heavyweights in the round of 32 following Friday's draw.
What is sure to be a boisterous encounter between the Wanderers and former National Soccer League outfit Adelaide City is also a clear highlight.
Other intriguing ties include Sydney United 58's game at home to Cairns-based FNQ FC Heat and ACT side Tuggeranong United's match away to South Hobart, the only Tasmanian representatives in the first edition of the competition.
An all A-League clash between the rebranded Melbourne City and Sydney FC, who are also due to meet in the first round of the new top flight season, is likely to generate plenty of interest, as will a derby clash between Manly United and Sydney Olympic.
Elsewhere, Central Coast Mariners go away to South Coast Wolves, formerly the NSL powerhouse Wollongong Wolves.
Of the other A-League clubs, Newcastle Jets are at home to Perth Glory, Adelaide United go away to Wellington Phoenix and reigning champions Brisbane Roar travel to WA's Sterling Lions.
The round of 32 fixtures will be staged between July 29 and August 19, with exact dates and venues to be finalised on Monday.
