Football has won the fight - for now - over Australia's most talented sportswoman, after Ellyse Perry put Sydney FC ahead of her New South Wales cricket team following a fixture clash.

Perry had been tormented for days over whether to turn out for the cricketing Blues in their Twenty20 final against Western Fury in Perth on Saturday or play for the Sky Blues in the W-League semi-final against Brisbane on the same day.

It is not the first time dual international Perry has been caught in a tug-of-war between her two great sporting loves, but rarely have the stakes been so high.

"It was a truly difficult decision to make and certainly something that took a huge amount of thought and consideration," Perry said.

"It's such a privilege for me to be a member of both Sydney FC and the NSW Breakers and I am truly grateful to the support given to me by both Cricket NSW and Sydney FC.

"The opportunity to play for [Sydney FC] in this weekend's semi-final of the W-League is something that I am very much looking forward to."

Perry has managed to avoid fixture conflicts for most of this season after leaving Canberra United for the Sky Blues, keeping both parties happy.

Sydney FC coach Alen Stajcic understands the difficulty the 22-year-old faced in choosing between football and cricket this week but is glad the Sky Blues won out on this occasion.

"It's fantastic news that Ellyse will be playing for Sydney FC in Saturday's semi-final," Stajcic said.

"I know it's a tough situation for her as both teams face important end-of-season games but her presence for us is certainly a boost as we take on our arch-rivals Brisbane Roar.

"Ellyse has worked very hard this season to fulfil all of her training and playing commitments for Sydney FC and Cricket NSW and she was in a tough situation."
