Laurent Blanc has revealed he is preparing to wield the axe at Paris Saint-Germain in a bid to sanction another spending spree.
Edinson Cavani, Marquinhos and Lucas Digne have all arrived in the French capital for a combined fee of over €100m, and those arrivals have further swelled an already bloated squad.
The reigning Ligue 1 champions have stuttered to two draws from their opening two games of the campaign, leading to speculation that Blanc could make further signings - but he insists he is now focused on trimming down his side.
“It makes sense to let some players go so we may buy others. If this happens we still have time, but this is not going to happen today," the 47-year-old told reporters at a press conference.
Speaking ahead of his side's trip to Nantes on Sunday, Blanc also suggested PSG have not prepared well enough ahead of the campaign.
"After two matches the other teams look more prepared than us, but the league is long, our level will rise and I hope it will materialise in terms of play," he added.
The former France boss added that he is working on a ploy to get the best out of both Edinson Cavani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but says the overall function of the whole team is more important.
"We thought a lot about tactics. We must not only seek to make our strikers shine but it’s about finding a balance in the midfield and defence.
“We want to become more effective than what we currently are. Our preparation is not over. “
