A-League Betting Preview: City early title favourites

The new-look club, led by Dutch mastermind John van 't Schip, have been installed as somewhat unlikely early pace-setters thanks to punters excited by the Manchester makeover
Melbourne City are surprise early favourites to win the A-League three months out from the start of the new season, with Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory also fancied.

Rebranded and boasting the services of Damien Duff and David Villa, the latter for at least part of the campaign, the team formerly known as Melbourne Heart are $5 front-runners at bet365 to win next year's grand final and taste championship glory for the first time.

Holders Roar and perennial heavyweights Victory, who will be able to call on Besart Berisha and Carl Valeri, are both at $6 to win.

It will be a new-look Western Sydney Wanderers next term, but with Tony Popovic still at the helm at of a side reached the grand final in each of the last two seasons, the team from Pirtek Stadium are well worth a look at $7.

Big things are expected of Adelaide United in their second campaign under Spanish coach Josep Gombau - the Reds are paying $8 to claim the ultimate prize in Australian football next season.

Central Coast and Sydney FC look slightly unloved at $9, despite Gosford outfit being champions as recently as 2012-13 and the Sky Blues making a fresh start under former Mariners boss Graham Arnold.

Perth Glory's acquisition of Ruben Zadkovich, Youssouf Hersi, Andy Keogh and Mitch Nichols hasn't swayed punters yet, with the Western Australians $15 outsiders.

Bringing up the rear are the Newcastle Jets, who have lost star striker Adam Taggart to Fulham, and New Zealand's Wellington Phoenix, both at $17 to win the title.
